Two answers in Practice Responses
IELTS Reading often asks you to find meaning in a text. You do not need every word. You need the answer to the question.
Concept explanation
The main idea is what the whole passage is mostly about.
A detail is one small fact in the passage.
The IELTS reading test includes several short texts or one longer text, depending on the test type you take. Students answer questions by finding information in the passage. You do not need to understand every rare word to answer many questions. It often helps to read the questions first, then look for key words in the text. When you practise at Foundation level, you build speed and confidence step by step.
Task
- For Question 1, think about the whole passage.
- For Question 2, find the sentence with the answer.
- Use short, clear English in the Practice Responses area.
Practice Responses
Submit your responses to check the questions you answered. Unanswered questions keep their answers hidden.
Check your work
Your answers come from the passage and use short, clear English.
- Your first answer gives the whole passage meaning.
- Your second answer comes from the passage.
- You do not add your own ideas.
- Which question was easier: main idea or detail?
