7 min

What to do

  1. Read the sample task line.
  2. Find the action word.
  3. Find the number limit.
  4. Answer with one number.

Why this matters

Many IELTS tasks have small limits. The limit tells you how many answers or words you can use.

Concept explanation

A task instruction tells you exactly what to do.

A limit tells you how many answers, words, or letters you need. For example, choose two means you must choose two answers.

Worked example

Sample task line

Choose two answers from the list, A-E.

Show Example

Question: How many answers should you choose?

Sample answer: Two.

Why it works: The task line says choose two. The word two gives the limit.

  1. Read the sample task line again.
  2. Find the word after Choose.
  3. Type the number only in the Practice Responses area.
