Why this matters

IELTS Speaking asks you to answer aloud. Short clear answers are a good first step.

Concept explanation

A speaking answer is spoken, not written. At Foundation level, keep it short and clear.

Worked example

Question: What is your name, and why are you studying IELTS?

Model answer: My name is Alex. I am studying IELTS because I want to enter university. Could you repeat that, please?

Why it works: The answer gives a name, one reason, and one polite question.

Task

Say one short answer aloud.

Use this frame:

My name is ___. I am studying IELTS because ___. Could you repeat that, please?

How success is measured

  • You say your answer aloud.
  • You give your name.
  • You give one reason.
  • You say one polite question.

Common mistakes

  • Only reading silently.
