Intervention: “Discuss both views” needs two fair summaries (WT2)

5–10 min
Read 6 of 20

What to do⏱ 5–10 min

Objective

Summarise each view fairly before you argue your own position.

Steps

 1. Read the explanation and the weak vs improved example.
 2. Complete the short task in your own words (3–5 sentences unless stated).

Both views, not one

⏱ ~8 min · WT2

Prompt type: Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Weak: Paragraph 1 argues strongly; paragraph 2 repeats the same side.

Improved pattern: Paragraph A summarises View 1 fairly. Paragraph B summarises View 2 fairly. Paragraph C gives your position with reasons.

Mini-example: View 1: tax reduces sugar intake. View 2: tax hurts low-income shoppers. Your view: tax + healthy subsidies.

Reflection
 • For: “Some say public transport should be free; others say users should pay.” Write two sentences only: one neutral sentence for each view (no opinion yet).

Self-check

 • You addressed only this one problem.
 • You produced a new example, not copied text.

Common mistakes to avoid

 • Attacking the view you dislike instead of summarising it.
 • Hiding your opinion until the conclusion without planning space for it.
