What to do⏱ 5–10 min
Objective
Align your thesis with the exact task (ban, advertise, teenagers, etc.).
Steps
- Read the explanation and the weak vs improved example.
- Complete the short task in your own words (3–5 sentences unless stated).
Keyword match
⏱ ~6 min · WT2
Question focus: “…should governments ban advertising for unhealthy food?”
Weak thesis: “Healthy eating is important for society.” (Off-topic: no ban, no advertising.)
Improved thesis: “A partial ban on junk-food advertising to children could reduce harm, but enforcement must be realistic.”
Reflection
- Prompt: “Should cities ban cars from the centre?” Write a thesis sentence that includes ban or a clear synonym and city centre (or clear synonym). Max 35 words.
Self-check
- You addressed only this one problem.
- You produced a new example, not copied text.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Generic thesis: “This is a complex issue.”
- Replacing the task with a different question you prefer.
