What to do⏱ 5–10 min
Objective
Use connectors only when the second idea truly follows the first.
Steps
- Read the explanation and the weak vs improved example.
- Complete the short task in your own words (3–5 sentences unless stated).
Connectors that actually connect
⏱ ~6 min · WT2
Rule: “Moreover / Furthermore / In addition” should add information of the same type (another supporting point). Do not use them to jump to a new, unrelated topic.
Weak: “Many cities have traffic jams. Moreover, some people enjoy classical music.” (No logical link.)
Improved: “Many cities have traffic jams. Furthermore, congestion worsens when commuters all drive at the same peak hour.” (Adds another traffic point.)
Reflection
- Take the weak pair above. Rewrite “Moreover” with a logical second sentence about traffic only (two sentences total).
Self-check
- You addressed only this one problem.
- You produced a new example, not copied text.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using formal connectors as decoration.
- Linking a new topic without a bridge from the previous sentence.
