What to do⏱ 5–10 min
Objective
Summarise each view fairly before you argue your own position.
Steps
- Read the explanation and the weak vs improved example.
- Complete the short task in your own words (3–5 sentences unless stated).
Both views, not one
⏱ ~8 min · WT2
Prompt type: Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Weak: Paragraph 1 argues strongly; paragraph 2 repeats the same side.
Improved pattern: Paragraph A summarises View 1 fairly. Paragraph B summarises View 2 fairly. Paragraph C gives your position with reasons.
Mini-example: View 1: tax reduces sugar intake. View 2: tax hurts low-income shoppers. Your view: tax + healthy subsidies.
Reflection
- For: “Some say public transport should be free; others say users should pay.” Write two sentences only: one neutral sentence for each view (no opinion yet).
Self-check
- You addressed only this one problem.
- You produced a new example, not copied text.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Attacking the view you dislike instead of summarising it.
- Hiding your opinion until the conclusion without planning space for it.
