Diagnostic Task Introduction

⏱ 3 min

Concept: A diagnostic writing prompt is an ungraded task that reveals your current level of clarity, structure, and control. It is not a test—it informs you and your instructor about where to focus.

Mechanism: You write 150–200 words in response to a pattern-neutral prompt. You then complete a self-assessment using the FOUR BASES. The AI panel (optional) can give feedback before reflection. Results guide your priorities for the semester.

Worked example: Prompt: "What makes research reliable or unreliable?" You draft 180 words. You reflect: "My thesis was broad; I could narrow to reproducibility. My Support was thin—one example. I'll prioritise Support this semester."

Analysis question: Why is the diagnostic ungraded, and how might that affect how you approach it?

How success is measured

You understand the purpose of the diagnostic and are ready to complete the prompt.
